Four Day Writing Skills Development workshop for Rural reporting
Charkha – The Development Communication Network, a Delhi based non-profit organisation in collaboration with Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust, Leh conducted a four-day writing skills development workshop for rural reporting with a focus on development issues, especially issues relevant to the empowerment of youth and women.
The four-day workshop started on 30th April 2019 and concluded on 3rd May 2019. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Mario Noronha, CEO, Charkha. The workshop started with the participants identifying the various development issues that needed to be addressed in Leh district.
The enthusiastic youth who were mostly from Elizir Jolden Memorial College and SECMOL were taken through the basics of journalism. They were also briefed about the various government schemes available The focus of the workshop was such that by the end of the workshop, each participant would be able to write a feature article that focuses on a particular
The participants were also taught the basics of photography by Jigmet Dadik, an accomplished photographer who is also Senior Program Manager, Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust.
The participants also had the privilege of going through an interactive session on the nuances of journalism with the noted journalist, Tsewang Rigzin, Secretary of the Press Club of Leh. Tsewang Rigzin has been awarded the Sanjoy Ghose Memorial Media Award by Charkha in 2004.
On a concluding day, Tsewang Namgail, Director, Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust gave the participants an inspirational speech on why they should write on the development issues of Leh.
Charkha has been conducting writing skills workshops every year in Leh since 2014 and hopes to continue so that the youth of Leh can benefit from the workshops.
